train wreck
« on: June 24, 2008, 12:40:21 PM »
watching history channel this afternoon, a show called deepsea detectives, and they are checking on a pair of locomotives 5 miles off long branch in 90' of water. dates back to mid 1800's. awois #8096. no one is able to figure out how they got there, sitting side by side right side up.

 pretty cool anyways.

I read somewhere they were shackled to a barge en route from NY to Philly (or something like that?) out in heavy weather then pushed off the barge in an attempt to save the barge and tow from going under. Pretty neat, but a bad day out there anyways.  t^

I saw something about that also. Either pushed off of a barge or slid off. Also remember another thought was maybe a wooden barge sunk with them on it and the wooden barge broke up and dispersed over the bottom over time. Thus, the two locomotives sitting side by side.

Also remember they were brand spanking new and being delivered.

I believe a Jersey diver came across them quite by accident.  t^

Some of us have probably even fished it at one time or another without even knowing.  ;D

Did a little searching and found this:

The actual lat/lon - according to AWOIS #8096 - is 40/16/29.16N 073/11/22.41W. And it is the 69 foot obstruction shown on the chart.  t^

Still looking for how they got there TT^
