Barnegat Ridge Fluke
« on: June 27, 2008, 01:48:33 PM »
Anybody fishing the ridge for fluke?
Wanted to know if the spiny dogfish are there before I take the 2 hour ride there.
Thanks

I typically fish for fluke AT LEAST two miles off the beach and as much as six and seven miles or more miles off the beach. It seems the further you go out, the denser the dog fish population is. Some of my favority six mile lumps are just saturated with doggies.

Can't get a decent early season fluke catch off the lumps in recent years because of the dogs. Not to say the fluke are not there, just that you can't get past the dog fish to get to the fluke.  >:(

I have not fished there yet this year but I can remember fishing there on many 4th of July holiday weekends and doing well on both blues and very large fluke.

Went to the ridge last night for Blues. Barely any life. Only 2 Blues and 1 Bonita. The Barnegat Light Fleet has been going North for fish. I jigged the bottom too and not even a Dogfish.
