28th barney area
« on: June 28, 2008, 02:56:51 PM »
pulled outta the slip at 0500 and went north out the inlet in search of bunker. got to seaside without spotting any and switched over to fluke.

tried in close, out far and everything in between, nothing to be had but a lonely skate. in route to try 1 more fluke spot we came across the bunker. 2.5 to just over 3miles off the beach.

tried to live line quite a few of the pods, but no takers, not even a hit. nothing on them either. and boy it coulda been nice, as there wasn't another boat in sight.

packed it up and hit barnlight reef for some small seabass and 3 for the cooler. plus a pesky little sea robin i swore i caught 3 times. rgmn

excitement of the day,,, while on the reef had something nibble the bait, set hook and start to reel it in, bah small guy i think just as it starts to haul ass due east, then turns and goes straight north,,, wtf im thinking, never had a seabass haulass on me before. its fighting but not real hard, or enough to be a striper.

get line up near the surface and whatever it was let go, and seen a giant flash go by as my rig comes to the surface with like a 10" seabass on the hook. he must have got hit as he hit my line and i started to reel him in. poor little guy was almost lunch for someone else.

who knows,, its the one that got away 5hrug

 bait choices,,,,
  fluke- procut, smelt
  seabass- procut, smelt, salted clam

tried to keep it short drifts over structure. so its a yes and no answer. reasoning for the smelt as bait for the sbass.

Nice effort Greg. I'll be out tomorrow trying. Hope to see some bunker. If not, fluking time it'll be.  t^
