1.chartreuse or white colored gulp swimming mullet w/ long thin strip of squid
2. killies w/ long thin strip of squid or just a killie no squid

I fare well with the gulp swimming mullet

Good Luck

Just drag your line across bottom... and be ready for the sea robins.  t^

Although I mainly like to throw artificials, (bucktails, Fin S, etc.).  When fishing from the surf I have had more success using a plain hook, snelled on a short leader with one or two spearing.  For weight I use a 1 to 1 1/2 oz. egg sinker or bank sinker on a fish finder.

Make sure you make a lot of casts kind of parallel with the beach.  When it hits the bottom use a slow retrieve back.  As the rig  gets close, don't rush it in to make another cast.  Work it all the way up to the sand.  Many fluke with ambush their prey right in that first cut next to the beach.

Good Luck! ;D

Take two rods, dead stick one and work the other like Bucktail stated.
15 lb test should be ok,17lb if you really want.
cast some metal shorties in 1oz.1 1/2 oz.or like.
on your bait rod add some strips 4"to 6" of robin, squid, spearing.      Good Luck, AJ.

Dead sticking is putting your rod in a holder and pretty much leaving it unattended. You will be tossing plugs or metal with your other rod while keeping an eye on the 'dead stick' for any bites.  t^

After you set up your bait (dead stick)rod place that in a sand spike set you drag lite to med. Keep an eye on it !! Check bait often.
The second rod is your casting, jigging and working rod .
Or you can set up two rods for bait and sit on your chair and watch the sights.  Good Luck

In Dead Sticking as AJ mentioned make sure to set your drag fairly lite, or you might just see your rod and reel heading east being guided by a huge bass of a life time.  Or maybe just a small Ray this time of year.

Good Luck.
