Pops Soul 6/28 fluking
« on: June 29, 2008, 03:05:06 PM »
Broke Shark River inlet around 10 am with 3 On board and headed North. Stopped and tried a drift about a mile of Asbury where there were a few other boats drifting nothing. Headed to Squid Head and made a long drift with a strong South to South East wind. I pulled up one short. We moved in to the Red Church Rock pile, I scored another short and then a 22 inch keeper caught on a squid and Gulp combo. The wife took a ocean motion nap down below because of the lack of fish action. An Coyote Cal gave it a good try looking for a Doormat fishing the big Gulp Squid but only scored a Sea Robin on the teaser. We had a strong South wind which was working well since it was wind against the tide so we were able to hold bottom with 6 oz of lead in 40 feet of water, water temp 70 degrees.  t^

Sounds like a good day Skip, you had some action, and managed a keeper, despite the south wind and the 18 inch minimum size limit. South wind always seems to put the brakes on the bite no matter what. And we have to bear with the 18 inch size limit now, after all, we recreational fisherman have SO devastated the resource with our fishing rods that there's nothing left for the commercial netters, LMAO.

Nice report Skip. It has been tuff this year. We were out today. Only two keeper fluke and a real nice sea bass.
