Reel Class 6/28 Fluke-Jig Report
« on: June 28, 2008, 07:13:54 PM »
Had "Bluefish" Steve Eagle, his buddy Ron, Jule Raichle and Steve Davies aboard for a combo trip.

Ran out east to a few humps and rough spots to start the day off fluking after getting delayed at the train bridge until 7:45 thanks to some guys that had simply no idea what they were doing navigating a tight space in a fast following current  rgmn

Got out there, found no drift, so we put on the bucktails and picked away at mixed size fluke for about an hour, as well as some skates and dogfish. Got a call from a few different guys about a wide open jig bite about 7 miles to our north, and after polling the crew, and having Mr. Bluefish onboard, we made the run.

Got into them good a few miles off Belmar, with bluefish right on top boiling, crashing and destroying sardines all around us, simply tearing up the baits. As soon as the jigs hit the water, we were on. First fish had a bass right at the side of the boat, didn't get her... We had all of the 5-15# bluefish anyone could possibly want to see in a season in one day  ;D

Bite was insane throughout the remainder of the day, as we had 4 and sometimes 5 on when I joined in on the action with regularity. Caught them on jigs, plugs, topwater, butterflies, etc. "Bluefish" Steve grabbed high hook, boating at least 2 dozen gators, topped off by a 15# monster. The rest of the guys were in the teens as well.

Great trip, all but 1 of the fish was released unharmed to fight another day  t^

Them blue fish certainly know how to salvage a day with poor conditions for fluking. Nice catch.  t^
