Fluking Brigantine American Legion Tourney 6/28
« on: June 28, 2008, 08:19:04 PM »
Capt. Joe Gogan and myself left the dock this morning shortly after 5Am with Capt. Jack Mathieson on the Goose Bumps.
The gnats were almost unbearable. >:(
First stop was the innercostal waterway behind Brigantine. A few shorts and lots of gnats. >:(
Moved from there to Broad Creek and the greenheads picked up with the gnats. >:( >:(
A few shorts there too ut no keepers.
Moved to Absecon channel and we picked up  2  keepers along the edges of the channel.Wind picked up alittle and gnats were gone but lots of greenheads. >:(
A few other stops yeilded 2 more keepers all from 19 to 20 inches--nothing big.
Ended the day with 4 and we did not have anything good enough for the contest.
A 5lb+ won the top spot.
A good day on the water but could have done without the gnats and gerrnheads. >:( >:( >:(

BUGSSSSSSSSSSS AHHHHHHHHHHHH,
Was a war with the gnats and greenheads today.

The day did start out good, although early.  ;D
 Had a nice sun rise.

Then all hell broke loose with the gnats and flies.
These two didn't think there were enough so they tried for more.

And these were the warriors that stayed around for a good part of the day. There were about four times this amount before Bob started swatting at them.

The fishing was not red hot, as Bob has already said. We did get a lot of shorts, but keepers were few and far between. The lunker fluke for the tourney was 5.51 pounds. Total weight for three fish weighed was a bit over 9 pounds. Not a good day for big fish in Brigantine.

It was still a good day to be on the water.  t^

I guess you had a west wind.

This time of year that is SOP for on the beach at IBSP.  Deep Woods is one of the best as a retardant.  It has some DEET in it that seems to work better than most.

Paul, in the morning we had no wind. That not only brought on the green heads but the gnats too.
I have a spray that is specifically for greenheads. It works well for about ten minutes, then you have to spray some more. They will still land on you and annoy you, but they will fly off just as soon as they land. Kinda like a touch and go landing drill for a new pilot.  TT^

yep that's good stuff.
After several applications you begin involuntarily twitching so the flies fly to find an easier meal  rofla
