Manasquan Striper Action
« on: June 28, 2008, 11:14:13 PM »
Left Manasquan Inlet today at 11:30 am with two of my Sons. Went north, saw no boats south of the inlet. Lots of boats off Spring Lake, most fluking, I think. Started fluking, saw bunker splashing around boat and grabbed the casting pole with weighted treble hook. Got a bunker, sent him out, nothing. No fluke hits after 30 mins. Pulled the bunker in, half dead. Moved the boat to a new pod, bunker all over the place. Same thing-snagged and let him go out. Kids were bored, rod in holder, and wham- the rod bent in half. Got him in after a 10 minute battle, my 13 yr. old netted him- he was 42". Went in around 2. This was actually my first striper, as I never had a clue as to how until this year. Gotta thank John and Greg at Bogan's in Brielle- learned alot from them and got all the right gear. A fantastic bait shop with excellent advice, service and gear. Had such a blast, bigtime adrenaline rush. Can't wait to do it again, hopefully will do better and keep learning.

Congrats Dan, thats a GREAT first striper, tough act to follow. The bass are around, like Irish Eyes stated in another post, they are off their feed with the south winds bringing colder water in. I think if the winds switch, and the water warms you're going to see the stripers all over(actually under) those bunker schools and feeding on them in the central Jersey area.

Great to have the children with you when the bubker are jumping all over the surface and the bass are under them.  I think we were there with you  ;)

Excellent catch. Especially for your first striper.

Snagging bunker and sending them back and getting a bass on it is a real heart pounding experience.  t^

All the Bogan's know a great deal about the sport of fishing. You got advise from the best and you got your reward for paying attention to what they said.  TT^
