Manasquan Report
« on: July 13, 2008, 08:39:21 PM »
Got a late start today, headed out Manasquan inlet at 1pm. Went directly to the reef, I was surprised there were but a few boats, some anchored. Fished spearing/squid combo for an hour, not even a bite. Had to use 10 oz. weight to keep me on bottom. Moved inshore off Spring Lake, 1 mile out, 45 ft. of water. Again, nothing, not even a skate or robin. Moved south of inlet, again, no bite. Came back at 5pm without a bite after 3+ hours. 2 things struck me today-  1. no boats in ocean, I mean none. Looked as far north and south as the eye can see, nada. like I said, only 3 boats at the sea girt reef, no one anywhere. What is going on? Gas prices? I was out on weds pm and there were boats all over the place fishing. Very strange.  2. ocean water seemed unusually green and clear, river water was murky as hell. Any feedback from anyone fluking out of manasquan today? Where was everybody, and how did they do? I would appreciate any feedback...thanks!

Could be that the weekenders were out early this morning and came in early to get a head start back up north. I know boat traffic was very heavy Friday evening in the Canal(people coming back in from the ocean), and I heard it was heavy Saturday morning, thats why I skipped fishing this weekend. Thats about the only thing I can think of.

I was out on the Sea Girt reef today also. In the morning, there were plenty of boats there. There were three 'fleets'. One on the north section, one in the middle and one on the south end.

I too have a poor day of fishing. Only had one short fluke and several skates.

South wind has been killing us. When I broke the Shark River inlet in the AM the water temperature was 64 degrees. It quickly went up to 71 degrees and just as quickly dropped down to 61!

The water 'looked' clean, but when you pulled your line in there was plenty of 'snot' on the line. Don't know what it is from. Dirty bottom? Gunk in water?  5hrug

I noticed most boats cleared the reef before noon. There were only a minimal amount of boats fishing in tight. Seems the lack of a bite chased most boats in more than anything else.

The water quality is probably directly related to TS Bertha.  She is really churning up the water.  Already blamed for 3 drownings this weekend!

Hi Rod and everyone,

Thanks!!  I went out surf fishing friday night and the wind and the waves/under tow were rough.  It took 6oz to hold bottom and forget casting lures out.  Needless to say, nothing!  I know that a lot of beaches had swim restrictions today and for the remainder until the waters calm down.  I saw three people drowned in AC and Wildwood this weekend.  NOT GOOD.

***Side Note--Just started fishing again.  I haven't been out saltwater fishing in a few years and haven't fished freshwater in 15+ years.  I am doing a lot of freshwater fishing at the moment, but I enjoy hitting the surf or the inlets.  Thoroughly enjoy reading posts and reports!!

Welcome Aboard Pfishingruven,

This weekend was a tough one.  We had a group out on Friday surf fishing at Island Beach State Park.  The conditions were not to bad but we encountered  tons of jelly fish and it made fishing ridiculous.  At one poing I must of had about 10 to 15 jellies on my line it looked like a string of Christmas lights.

I radioed this info to a friend and he said that by my description the jellies were spawning.  Not good for fishing that night.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to throw them out there, someone will have the answer for you.

Again Welcome Aboard.

Happy Catching

Welcome Aboard amfer,

Don't worry about not typing well many of us are still one finger pluckers and it takes a while to set up a good report.  Just aws long as the information is true and sincere.

So kick your shoes off grab a cold adult beverage put your feet up and enjoy.  Oh, yeah we are addicting so make sure you make the time to fish.

Again Welcome to the site.

Happy Catching
