Irish Ayes fluking 7-20
« on: July 20, 2008, 05:12:34 PM »
Had George, Bob G and Lou aboard today. Headed directly to Long Branch where we had a half decent catch yesterday.

Found a larger charter boat already there. He was there yesterday too.

Did not fare as well today as yesterday. The water temperature had dropped twelve degrees overnight. Went for 72 degrees yesterday down to 60 degrees today. As the day progressed, the water temperature rose four degreed to 64.

The wind was out of the south-east. Not too bad in the morning but picked up as the day went on. Probably hit about 15-20 knots by noon time.

Left Long Branch and started working our way back to the inlet. Stopped at several spots on the way back.

Finished the day with four keeper fluke and over 50 throw backs. Only had one skate, no dogs and no sea robins.

George was high hook with three of the keepers and had the largest at 20 inches. I caught the other keeper.

Will be back at it tomorrow. Hoping the wind slows some and shifts out of the south.

Yeah, this south wind does not help a bit.

The temps have been hurting the suds catch as well.  The upwelling has the fish totally off the bite and that makes for a long day doing nothing but throwing lead.

Happy Catching

AJ, George was on fire today! Seemed like every drop he hooked up. The rest of us were just there.  ;D
We did get our share of shorts and small seabass though, so it wasn't all for naught.  t^

Nice catch and thanks for the report!  Not bad for the conditions!!  Was down at the beach tonight and the Inlet and the wind was just too much!  Can't imagine it out on the water.

....winds from the south...fish close their mouth... so very true. Nice job putting some in the box. Very tough to do on days like that.
