Met BobG and Steve at the dock this morning. Original plan was a fluke trip. With no wind we decided to look for some bunker.
When we broke the inlet we were immediately greeted with bunker. Pods all over. Snagged some and sent them down. Negative results.
Headed toward the Sea Girt reef searching for more bunker on the way. Figured on fluking once we got to the reef as the wind started to blow a little. On our way out the fog rolled in. Had less than 1/8 mile visibility.
We found numerous bunker pods on the way. Some were being corraled by dolphin. Several dolphins would cruise the out skirts of the pods gathering the bunker up in the middle, then others would have a feast on them. Amazing how nature works.
With no hits on the bunker we eventually made it to the reef and put some fluke lines in the water (along with bunker lines). Caught some short fluke but negative results on the keepers.
Called off the search for fluke and started heading back in. On the way in we found more bunker and tried again to see if there was life on the pods. Bob had one bunker bit in half by a shark, going by the bite mark.
It was a nice day of fishing but a poor day of catching.
