On boats my whole life. Big and small. Grew up doing the shore thing every summer. Still love everything about it. Well, except greenheads.

Crew member on several dive boats out of Belmar and Brielle. Owned a few boats, bought new in the winter. Studying for the USCG OUPV license.

After all these years, I'm finally the guy at the helm who has to find the fish and the wrecks as opposed to help run the boat. I have found info here already that will help in that regard.

Thanks in advance to all who share their hard-earned knowledge. With the price of fuel and every other obstacle that keeps us from getting out, its nice to find a group willing to help others, even if if leads to sharing the over-regulated and shrinking fisheries with one another.

If you have been lurking for any time you know we are a very friendly bunch.  I was over close to Lavellette this morning by the north dock in Seaside Heights.  They are doing very well on the crabbing BTW.  It was pretty foggy over there this morning and only about 73 so far.  The water temps are crazy creating the shore fog.

Talked to a friend that went out Yacking out back of IBSP and he said the water was in the mid 50's and the bite was totally off.  It is crazy.

Yup. I lurked a bit before jumping in. I have commitment issues.

Yeah, the fog is really nasty stuff.

I have been hearing of a really decent crab season so far. Go figure. My vacation starts this Saturday, so I'll be down there for 8 days. Will try as much as mother nature will allow. I have two daughters who are really wanting to get into it. I've taken them a few times but really need to start producing for them to get them hooked for life like I am.

I'm thinking weakies in the bay next week? Flatties? Staying inside with them.

Any spots by me that you'd recommend for a mid-week try?

The hot spot right now is the Mantalokin Bridge area.  They are getting some nice fish there as well as 5 - 6" crabs.  I have heard that the croakers are in there as well.

I live in Toms River and right now the upper bay is doing real well anywhere north of the Toms River it self.  Seabreeze boats reported a small black Drum being caught off their dock as well strange but not unheard of.

Just North of the Mantaloking Bridge at the Red Buoy (I believe #4) is a nice hole that can hold flatties and weak fish. Look for it on your fishfinder, the depth will go from 6 feet to 13, then 17 then 24 -25 feet.

If you pull right up to the buoy and start drifting towards the bridge you should find it. It's maybe 50 feet wide by 50 feet long and you may see other boats set up there. Also right around the base of the bridge north and south side can produce.

Anyone know of a place to get nice grass shrimp in the Lavalette, Seaside, Toms River area?

I have not seen grass shrimp sold in this area for a while.  I know the shops from Tuckerton and south sell them.  That is why I tie them (usually during the winter) and use them to fly fish for weakfish.
