Pt Elks... TNT ... 7-26-08
« on: July 27, 2008, 06:47:30 PM »
This year fished the Pt Elks Tourney with da LAB and Special Guest Boston Pete....

Put in at Dales and ran the canal to the inlet for the 6am start..... Plan was to run back to the SH Channels, drag live baits for a while then hit da rox to finish the day.....

Ran back to the channels along with a few others and bounced around the 10 pound grounds for 4 hrs.... caught a ton of fish all 17-17.5 inches with only 3 fish going in the box .... bite was slowly dieing and it just wasnt happening as the wind started to come up..... decided it was time to go bucktailing so off we went....

first drift outside and first drop Petey boxes a 4lb fish immediatly..... continued to pick keepers and shorts until 2pm when Lab lays into a fish that stopped him cold..... fish gave up on him and we thought oh well, till we see the fish 50 ft from the boat up on the surface.... mike slides him right to the net..... by the time we got situated it was 230 and we said ut oh... had to be back in the inlet by 330....south wind kickin HARD and seas bulding and tight.... took a serious ass kicking on the ride back.... pulled into Brielle Yacht club at 350pm....was told we just missed the elk people they just left... was told to go to fishermans supply... called there on the phone and was told the elk people left there at 330pm, wtf ?????? other weigh station was Dales.... upon arrival there naturally the girl at the dock tells us they left 10 minutes ago.... just wasnt meant to be.... weighed the fish anyway and it went 8lbs 13 oz ...would have been good for the final money spot that was taken by a fish that was 8.4.....

cleaned up and went to the elks after party.... could have done without that..... food was horrible, dried up or burnt.... clams were GONE by 6pm.....hardly anyone there compaired to years past..... BIG DISSAPOINTMENT.....

ONCE AGAIN -- Pete and Mike sorry we couldnt make the scale..tried my best in tough conditions.....

BIG THANX TO CAPT JERRY AND WAYNE for pulling up on us and letting us tuck in behind them half way back ... t^

Nice fish. Good try on attempting to make the weigh in. It got real sloppy in a hurry Saturday afternoon. I beat my crew up coming back from the rocks going to Shark River.

Nice report, and great catch. Sorry about the weigh in. We've all had days like that, but I know that doesn't make you feel any better.

I remember you saying you were fishing in the tourney. Saw you go by and waved to you. Don't know if you realized it was me or not.

You guys were going south/east to north/west. At the rocks at the time. Looked like you may have been heading up to Sandy Hook.

Someone on the boat did wave back.  t^
