Reel Class Fluke 7/29
« on: July 29, 2008, 08:36:07 PM »
Back in action after my sunstroke vacation in the Caribbean... Had the Rich Comly charter aboard consisting of Rich, his wife Toni, and nephew Scott. Great people, fun crew

Fished to the South and East, rough stuff, edges of rough stuff, and around the rough stuff all day. Had a great start to the day with 5 keepers in the first 2 drifts along with a good amount of shorts while we had a good W wind blowing, putting us along at .5 -.8 kts. After the wind dropped out, we lost the drift. Picked up, fished the same area by power drifting, just couldn't put it together again. Bucktails were producing a short or two and skates...

Wound up running further south, got some more fish down there, still a good amount of shorts with a keeper or two more mixed in. At around 11 the S wind kicked in, but we found a wreck with some ling and seabass on it, so we put a few of those on ice.

Finished up the day on the same piece we started at, with the S wind honking we were drifting around 1.5 kts, so I put the drift sock in and the we started picking again. Got a few more.

Not a bad day, lots of action and again lots of fish in the 16-17.5" range out there. "Big" fish today was 20". Wound up with 8 fluke in the box out of about 40 boated, 7 ling, 2 nice seabass, and a cocktail blue.

Good report. The keepers are starting to turn on now with the predominant south wind leaving us.

I had the water temp at 73 degrees today north of Shark River. Another good sign.  t^
