sandy hook question??

hey all...im thinkin of takin the kids to sandy hook on monday morn for a day at the beach,of course im gonna fish while they play ...i usually go to north beach..anyone know if there is a better beach for surf fishin??i wanna try and get  a few fluke in the surf...thanks for the help...

Not to sure about the beaches up there but as far as bait goes on IBSP I ahve been having good luck using bucktails with a Gulp shrimp teaser on a dropper loop about 18 to 20 inches up from the bucktail.

thanks paul..just to clarify,when you say bucktail,do you mean like a spro??also what # test do you use for the dropper and what size and type of hook..sorry to ask so many questions

a good beach would be to walk to the tip of the hook.  You have deep water in casting distance, but if you have kids, the walk may be a bit much. Another good place would be off the nude beach as there are Clam beds off of it, but not sure you want to take your kids there either.

thanks,if i was to park at the north beach all i have to do is walk north up to the point right?? or is there a better parking area closer i should use??

You can park right at the tip itself, there is a parking lot there. It is a good walk on a path of mostly sand until you hit the water. Bring bugs spray for the walk there, and dont carry to much. Or you can park at North Beach, and walk the shoreline to get to the tip, but that is also a pretty far walk. I kind of gotten tired of walking to the tip, after doing it many times the last few years, so I just go to the Inlet now, since its only about a 15 foot walk from the car to the spot  . Use chartreuse or white colored swimming mullet Gulp Bait, I do pretty good with that there. Good Luck

Be cautious of storms too!!!  A fisherman was just killed by a lightning strike there last week(if you didn't hear).  Seems that SH is notorious for people getting caught on the beach in storms there!! Over the years I have read of more people struck by lightning there, than anywhere else in NJ!

went to the hook today,got there around 10am..wanted to go earlier but the kids were sleepy heads..lol..parked in the lot that has the restaurant in it..seagull nest or something like that...we were there till 3:30..i caught 7 sea robins,and 5 short fluke...i couldnt believe how flat the ocean was,due to that west wind .it was like a lake...largest fluke was 13"..was a beautiful day at the beach...

Don't remember, but yes, keep walking to the tip.  It is a hike with gear.
