FishOn42 8/3 M. Inlet Report
« on: August 03, 2008, 06:30:03 PM »
Fished the Inlet today like usual. Started around 530 this morning, a little early I must say for wall fishing. But fish were hitting right away, during low tide I caught a bunch of shorts and 1 robin, my cousin caught a bunch of shorts also. Fishing slowed down for a few hours, 830 came around... I nailed a 19 1/2 inch fluke on a killie. Threw that sucker right on ice, first keeper of the year for me  t^.... took a few breaks, had a sandwhich, relaxed in my car listened to some Tom Petty. Started again around 10 or so, bunch more shorts, and a few star gazers. I must say, the short fluke ARENT as small as they have been in the begining of the season, or as of last year that I can remember. I caught 4 fluke over 17 inches, but under 18 inches, and 2 over 17 1/2 inches, very dissapointing that they had to be tossed back.  >:(...
Anyway, Ben was there, he seems to be a legend who has fished there for my estimate of 40 years+. So I walked over by him, in which im kind of freindly with him since ive seen him so many times there. So I go next to him, take one cast with a nice size killie. BAM, another fluke, this one at 19 1/4 inches. I asked to use his net and at first he said no. Didnt know if he was joking or not, so I was ready to sling it over the wall, but he grabbed the net and netted it for me  t^ t^.
Tides changed, and from 12 until 3 30 the biting wasnt going at all, lots of seaweed and alot of bad fisherman. Took off got some lobster bisque and stuffed clams and called it a day. First 2 keepers of the year 19 1/4, and 19 1/2 inches. My cousin who has been getting the keepers, was skunked today. But left with a good sunburn  >:D.....

Until next time.. Good Luck! chrz

Kinda pissed I left my sisters camera at home, time for me to buy my one.. ;)

The "norm" for a weekend day, huh??

Nice catches!!  Those are two nice fish.  Thanks for the report.

I am going out later this evening to do some Inlet and bay fishing.  Hoping for some fish, but just happy to get out of the house!

Nice catch. Two keepers off the wall ain't bad at all.  t^

It does suck having to toss back a big fat 17" fluke.  :P

Nice catch! I was looking for you on friday as we cruised through the inlet on our way out to the reef around 12 maybe. Didn't see anyone with their shirt off on the wall, haha.  Ben was there however with his table chair umbrella set up. :)

haha greg i wasnt there friday, but i was there yesterday with no shirt on the wall.. and yes ben was there with his umbrella set up haha....

garry thanks , i know its tough getting keepers from the wall.. but ALOT of the shorts being caught yesterday by everyone were like above 16 inches .. there are bigger fish in the area it seems... some guy had one 17 7/8 and he let it go! i woulda smushed it a little and tossed it in the cooler, especially if nothing was going right for me  TT^

I talked to 3 reliable sources I know this morning while getting shad at the inlet, and all 3 told me that a guy caught a 7 pound fluke at the wall yesterday. He foul hooked it, apparently, as it went for his killie. All 3 guys saw the fish.

I also heard that someone caught two 6 pound fluke there yesterday, but can't confirm that one with anyone reliable.

yes Garry, it is true about the two 6 pounders, i talked to the guy from the bait place right there, didnt hear about the 7 pounder though.. but i do believe it, there are some nice size fish coming out of there, mine were probably 3 1/2 pounds each...

and yeah i had one fluke yesterday for dinner, brought it to my grandparents (always bring them fish when i catch something), they thought it was FANTASTIC.. of course i fried it, and ate it with some tartar sauce.. that is my favorite, and ate the other one today with some string beans from the garden here.. fried that one up too.. next time im gonna cook it with some garlic and butter and see how that is.. t^ t^...

wont be out fishing until middle end of august because ill be on vacation.. TT^
