Sat 8-9 flukin'...
« on: August 09, 2008, 04:18:07 PM »
Launched from Keyport by 5:30. Thought about starting closer but made the trek across the bay to Ambrose.
Wicked fast drift first thing with outgoing and a good breeze from the west. Real nice pick of fish mid-channel in the 65-70 ft range.
Breeze dropped out but the drift kept up at almost 2 knts. Needed 12 oz to hold and used a 14 on deadstick rod. Smelts, big sandeels and squid strips worked well today.
Worked CH on the way back and it was loaded with doggies on the edges.
Gave a last drift at the 11A and was surprised with a keeper weakie on a pink gulp minnow on a teaser hook 18" above a spro. Made 2 more drifts and didnt mark or hook anything. Hopefully this guy wasnt alone!
Back on the trailer by noon. Totaled close to 20 fluke with 3 keeps, largest at 22" and the lone weakie.
Packing the truck and off to OBX. Have 2 trips scheduled for the week. Hope to have some positive reports next week.
Ran into TreeBeard out at Ambrose and motored over to say hello.  Real nice ride you have there Capt!

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.
