8/12 Out with Willie Schultz leaving port around 10:15. Took some time to catch a bunch of 4-6" snappers on ultralite trout rod and small spinner lures (anything would do). Would have made for a easy pickins with the cast net but left it home in the garage
. Had a ton of fun catching those little guys. Had the state troops come by to check us out. Asked what we were up to and was quickly on his way. Headed to the TC area and caught a handful of short fluke. Moved out to the ambrose where the water was ripping so fast 12oz was difficult to keep down without double the depth in scope. Put two in the box with another handful of shorts to release. Snappers didn't do it today. I'll right that off to the ripping water. Overall, snotty conditions made for tough catching but a good day!
8/14. Had my brother-in-law Brian O'Byrne out for his first trip this season. Left around the same time and fished similar locations today. Marked very good structure in the reach which produced plenty of fish. Brian has not been out flukin for almost 15 years so he had to blow the rust off. He landed the first fish on first drop but came up shy by a 1/4".
Played around for a good hour with very flat seas and slow drift but still managed to boat several shorts. Made way to the Ambrose for deeper and swifter moving water. Now that's the ticket
. We had constant nonstop action through the tide and almost till 3:30 in the afternoon when it got real bumpy but we still kept bailing fish most of which where just shy (except one)
. Good day.... put two keep fluke in the boat, the big one measured out at 7.5 lb 28", 1 nice seabass about 2.5 lb. I think there's a new fishin partner in the making.
