Had Scott Hill, his son Greg, Scott's buddy Rick and his son "Mohawk" Chris aboard for a fluke trip today. This was Rick and Chris' first saltwater fishing experience, so my goal was to get them going w/ some action and hopefully put some fish in the box.
Broke the inlet @ 7:30, w/ pea soup fog slowly burning off throughout the morning... Stayed local, never strayed more than 3 miles to the N or S of the inlet, bounced between a lot of spots however.
Started out on a small hill just N and E of the inlet, had immediate action, with the first 2 fish going right in the box at around 19". A hard N current couple with the NW wind made for a fast drift, so the drift sock helped greatly, and even w/ that we were having issues holding with 8-10 oz.
After a few drifts we were then inundated by some short fish, but picked a couple more keepers. Once that petered out, we headed for a small low profile wreck a few miles to the S, and had more action, again with some quality fluke going in the box and a few nice seabass in the mix as well. By 2PM, things really started slowing down, as the wind crapped out and so did the current.
Tried a few drifts at the AC Reef, only to come up with a couple more shorts.
Finished the day with 15 fish in the box, about half of the keepers were nice quality fish of 20-22", but no real big fish today. We must've thrown back another 15-20 fish in the 17.5-17.9" range again. Scott bucktailed all day, had some nice fish, and the rest of the guys dragged bait, with Mr. Mohawk leading the way with 4 or 5 nice keepers as well. Good trip, great crew!!
(Will post pics on the website in a day or two, sorry guys!)
