Union Beach surf report (8/16)
« on: August 17, 2008, 06:04:48 PM »
I hit the beach Saturday with my brother and a friend. We got there around
12 and stayed until about 10:30. Fishing was slow until about 5 when my
brother hooked up with a cow nosed ray that was probably between 10 - 15
pounds. We saw a couple more rays pulled up on the beach. After that we had
some blues here and there but that was about it. It was kind of a slow day
but the ray definitely made it exciting. The only problem we had was when it
was time to go. My brother walked up to the truck with a rod and tackle box
while the two of us packed up the rest of the gear on his way back down to
the beach someone else was leaving. We then head right back out to the
parking lot with the rest of the gear and the rod that was in the bed of the
truck was now gone. The group of people that had taken it was still in the
lot and fessed up to doing it and returned it. So it was good we got it back
but I find it sad you can't leave anything unattended for even five minutes.
Anyway thats our Saturday at UB.

Good job on the ray and blues.

You should have called the PD on the creaps who took the rod. I'm sure it wasn't the first time they did that. Nice that you did recover it.

Welcome Aboard shnevdorf,

Good report and a good turn of events.  You have to be careful with those rays as they can empty a reel in no tome.  The real big ones can have wing spans of 14-145 feet, that is amazing.

Again Welcome Aboard and thanks for posting.   TT^
