Welcome!!

Bucktail jigs or bucktail teasers??

Bucktail jigs can be tipped with fresh bait or GULP type baits.  You need enought weight to hit bottom and if you are casting from shore, you need to work it in bouncing it off the bottom.  So you want just enough weight to get you to the bottom.  If you are working it on a boat, I would assume it is the same method, but I can't say for sure....haven't been out on a boat since I was very young!!

If you are asking about bucktail teasers, you would fish them 12-18 inches above your main rig, bait, lure, etc...  You can tie them on a dropper loop off of your leader or tie directly onto a swivel off of your main line.  Some people are tipping them with bait or gulp as well.  Gulp shrimp seem to be working well in the surf.

Hope this helps!  Good luck!
