4th Dependent Sunday 8/24 Mudhole
« on: August 25, 2008, 09:53:25 PM »
Left shark river inlet for the first time with calm water at 515am. Headed to mudhole wrecks in search of tuna. Set up troll near the arundo wreck(i think, chart on boat). Trolled south through the tuna hole towards monsterledge. Saw at least a hundred dolphin, had blue water at around 73 deg and no bites. Headed southeast towards the ledge and continued to see dolphin and then whales all over the place. Stopped at a pot and casted diamond jigs and rattletraps to the pots and had 3 mahi chase to the boat. One was at least 4 feet long!!! No bite, tons of little fish with 3 stripes at the pot, caught some for bait. No idea what these were??? Continued to the ledge and saw a huge sunfish. Real cool, no tuna. Trolled all morning close to 40 fathom hole and had no results. One fish hit and was lost almost instantly and one chicken mahi was brought home for a sandwich. Great experience for first time trolling for school bluefins, trolled a 7 rod spread from my 23 proline with no tangles all day. will try again when weather permits. By the way, that inlet was awful on the way back when the seas kicked up...

Nice effort Greg. It is always a good trip when you hit the mud hole. Great sites, if nothing else. t^

I usually approach the inlet from the north when it is sloppy like it was today. Go into the seas more than on your stern that way.

Sweet, after I posted I tried to download and blow it up...as soon as I did I changed my guess to Blue Marlin, though still fuzzy...

you are right that is something we'd all love, can't imagine just 5 miles...
