Manasquan Inlet 8/30
« on: August 30, 2008, 10:40:29 PM »
Hit the Inlet PPB side as usual around 1830 hrs.  Incoming tide, light breeze.  HEAVY Boat traffic, heavy current ripping in, tons of weeds and garbage(yum), lots of weekend warriors out there fishing, which made it even harder.  Threw the usual lures out with no luck.  It was really unfishable with lures.  Not to mention the wakes breaking over the wall...I felt like I was surf fishing at the beach!  Poppers produced nada and I couldn't get the right action or depth I wanted on the Rapala with the waves and current.  Gave in less than an hour later.  Lots of people throwing bait and catching "snag" fish!  Few actually fluking.  I didn't see any fish caught and no one I spoke to had caught anything either!  Didn't see one sea creature while I was out there.  I was hoping for some bait fish to come in on the incoming and bring something with them, but not today!

It was a very comical evening just people and boat watching though!  Lots of YAHOOs on the water trying to race each other through the canal or beat out the bigger slower boats.  A few daredevil jet skiers jumping the wakes...man they get some height!!  A few just plain STUPID guys out there in a not even 12 foot boat with what looked like a trolling motor on the back.  It looked like a flat bottom 10 foot Minn Kota Bass Hound you would throw in the bed of a pick up truck and use in a lake.  No more than 2 seats.  Neither of the 2 adult males had PFDs on and the maybe 5 year old child cfzd nosmly had an old orange one on!  Not something I would put my child in and go out the Inlet into the Ocean!!  Then the guys on land...well I won't even get into it.  I am no pro or even a great fisherman, but I know how to control my line.  I kept my distance, but there was more than 1 person at a time snagged or crossed with any number of people fishing.  It was like a circus and once they crowded around me, I threw in the flag!!

Overall, an excellent evening out, but a not so great fishing day.  Tough conditions and tough company!!  Better times to come...hopefully real soon!

I was there around 7pm on Friday not many people by the old restaurant. Me and my daughter were (trying) to fish gulps.  I had 2oz lead heads and could not get to the bottom and when I did we were stuck good thing we were using cheap heads and not spros. High tide was supposed to be at 7:03 and at 8:00 the tide was ripping in, waves over the wall and about a foot of water behind the restaurant. After this weekend hopefully it will quiet down when all the Bennie's go home. Later

Welcome Aboard!

It was still ripping last night when we left right around 8.  I saw that when we left there were only a few people by the old restaurant.  I definitely believe it...You might have need 12oz last night.  One of the rougher days I have seen the inlet.  You were with the norm of getting snagged.  Seems the heavier the weight the more they were getting snagged!  There was just no happy medium last night.  I couldn't get anything I was fishing with to work either.

I am sure the conditions will get better and the Inlet will slow down significantly with boat traffic and people traffic.  I should have known better than to head out on Labor day Weekend.  It was a nice night out though!!

Good reporting. Rest assured, after this weekend, the place will be less crowded. You'll have your pick of spots then.  t^

went over the mantoloking bridge yesterday on my way to family barbecue.....wow, looking at the water.....every type of boat imaginable, all over the place. i would not have wanted to be there. my brother took his son to manasquan inlet friday morning, caught 1 keeper fluke, lost nearly 15 set-ups. i myself am going out to the surf on LBI tomorrow morning, to enjoy no crowds, to try my luck at some of the southern species that have been popping in. t^
