Kept my promise to my 10 and 9 year old grandsons to go fluke fishing in the "ocean".
Went on the non sponsor G out of PPleasant on the 2-6:30 trip.
Boat was crowded, I guess because of the nice weather and waning days of the fluke season.
Fished mainly east of the inlet from 1 to 3 miles or so on a few lumps.....stiff SE wind and current required at least 10 oz and braid to hold......tough conditions for the youngsters to handle, but they did pretty good for the first time under these conditions.
Not a lot of keepers on the boat....I would say less than 15 based on what I saw and the action at the filet table......guy fishing next to me won the pool with a fish at about 4 lbs.....he was rigged with at least an 8 oz fluke ball with a trailer hook and a teaser jig of 1/4 oz or so up about 12" from the ball....he was high hook also with 3...he knew how to fish at those depths and that current...much different technique than RB.
Grandsons had a good time...one skate and a short fluke.....training them for next season.
