Manasquan Inlet 9/5
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:39:25 PM »
Well, I decided to do some saltwater fishing even though the reports have not been great!  I can't saltwater fish much when the entire family goes out, like I can freshwater fish if we hit a park, etc.

I started off down in S Seaside Park at Top of the Mast.  The beach was packed!!  Tons of crazy people swimming in the surf, which was moderately rough, 3-4 foot breakers with a quick undertoe.  Didn't see anyone out fishing besides the few bathing beach goers, no boats and no birds working as far as I could see.  So I decided to head north to Point Pleasant and try the Canal and Inlet.

I knew I was a bit behind the tide for the Canal, so I stopped at the Inlet first.  Good amount of people fishing, but a wicked outgoing current and tons of boats all drifting the Inlet and staying out of the Ocean.  Lots of weeds too...all over the water!

Decided to check out the Canal.  Went up Arnold Ave and got stuck in Car Show Traffic.  Point was mobbed with people still.  Heard talk of some type of boat show this weekend.  Hit Pinebluff Ave.  Parked and walked down, one cast and decided it was unfishable!  Super fast outgoing tide and more grass than at the Inlet, so I turned around and went back to the Inlet.  I fished from around the bend in the little Park all the way down to the Ocean with not one hit!  I didn't see any fish caught either.  It was difficult to fish from the rocks today because of the current.

I snapped some pics from the end of the Inlet of the waves.  Ocean was easily 4-5 foot waves and they were crashing over the last quarter of the Inlet Jetty.  As the day moved along, you could start to see offshore squalls from TS Hannah start to move into the area.  It was a great day out...was hoping for some fish, but not what I went out for!!

Wow things went down hill quick.  The inlet was calm at high tide arounf noon.  Water was clear w/ no weeds.  Lots of jellies.  Same at the canal around 2pm.  Wind was pretty good though.
At least you had a day out all to yourself.

Great effort. It was a nice day to be on or near the water.  t^

It certainly was a nice day.  Much cooler than inland and lower humidity!

Very cool,  makes for a very rough inlet though.  Did they have the helicopters out as well.  I am glad I decided to go to the beach plum Festival instead.
