Spoon Bass
« on: September 17, 2008, 05:43:59 PM »
Hit the water this morning with Frank to score a couple bass for my table. We grabbed a few livies and headed out in the bluefish infested waters of Niantic.

We drifted baits in 45-60ft and the bluedogs were doing there thing and quickly chomping through all our live baits. So for something different I started chunking instead of sending down the swimmers. That was the ticket!! I never thought I would cut a live bunker into 3 pieces but I did it today. The big blues would simply tear the live whole fish off the hook in an instant but the fresh chunks made their way down to the bass.

When Frank is with me I always like to experiment so once our bait was gone I tried a couple drifts 3-waying with my Tube Tail Trolling Spoons tipped with a big sandworm. The blues were all over that too but I did pick-up 1 real nice bass and I'll be trying this technique again very soon.

Here's a couple pics...
