Sea Hawk 9/14 bottom fishing
« on: September 15, 2008, 11:35:58 AM »
Took our first weekend open boat trip out on Sunday for a mixed bag of bottom fishing.  Anchored up at the SH reef and had a pick of fish going.  Conditions were pretty favorable to drift so we pulled the hook and positioned ourselves for drifting.  Produced fairly well.

Nice sized porgies, some keeper sea bass, and when on anchor some blackfish.  Overall a pick of fish, but good action overall.  Some left with a dozen porgies, others with twice that.  Some struggled but that's why we call it fishing.  Some keeper seabass in the mix as well.

Pool fish was a blackfish and a few onboard left with their limit of 1.  We have crabs and clams provided with paid fare and sandworms for a modest price.  Clams seemed to work best overall and those using greencrabs had some action with blackfish.

We were chartered Saturday and had a decent catch of porgies and some seabass.

Did the turnaround Sunday evening with another charter for bluefish.  Was very good.

We are chartered next weekend on both days.  Have to make up some weather cancelled trips and only time to accommodate these requests are these dates so apologies to those looking to sail with us on open trips.  Please check our website's schedule and calendar for days that we will not be sailing open.

So nice out there on the water Sunday until we got back to the dock...hot and humid :P

Pretty good day for Theresa and I on Sunday.  She went right to using greenies for bait and managed a few shorts.  I tried for porgies first but soon saw she had life on the crabs so I switched.  By the time I started to get a bite going we were pulling anchor to start drifting.  Well, went to porgy fishing and caught some nice sized ones.  Good amount of action overall. TT^

When we went back on anchor, I get the mate in one ear and captain in the other asking why I can't catch a keeper blackfish...well soon answered them with the pool fish rofla
Did manage a few shorts and missed a couple nice bites.

Gonna grill up some jumbo whole porgies tonight chrz

Gotta say some real nice sized porgies around.  Good fight on the right tackle. t^
Personally could have doubled my porgy catch if I didn't "waste" time with crabs, but did get the pool and love those blackfish TT^
