Fly Tying
« on: September 24, 2008, 10:19:26 AM »
Just looking to see if anyone that usually uses this board has any paterns that they would be interested in sharing.  i personally dont have any photos of the teasers that i tie yet, but will take some and post them on here, along with a material list.  i figured it would be something that may gain some interest, if there are members interested in tying.  most of my patterns are fairly simple, but they have worked for me in the surf, and i am always looking for something new to try out.
as always, thanks in advance.

There is a whole thread that deal with flies, teasers, jigs and plugs.

Unfortunately when we switched over to the new server some viewed pictures are missing I just tried by clicking onto the links at the bottom of the posts and they are still there.

I hope this helps.  If I have the time over the weekend I will search for those pictures and re post them.

Have fun

My all time scoring teaser that seems to work all the time is a white bucktail with a multi color(blue, green and silver) holographic type flash...just a few strands.  It mimics bunker, mullet, rainfish, small blues and even sand eels!  Very useful and I always go to it first.  There are many others that work, too, it is just my favorite bucktail teaser.  Just tied my last one on from ones that were made many years ago.

I need to get back into it.  So I need to get some supplies...vise, thread, glues and epoxies, hooks, etc...

just two of my creations.  the top one is the one i have been using for a few seasons.  caught both stripers and blues on it as a teaser.
the bottom one is a new creation i came up with as either a sand eel, or a rainfish/spearing.

Nice ties.  Both are great patterns.  I am looking for a little slow down this winter to start tying once again.  I am almost out of stuff I tied last winter.  I have to start stocking up on material again as I am depleted on a lot of stuff.

the largest hook that i have had in the vice is a 3/0, and i have also had a size 20 in there when i am tying trout flies.  kinda amazed that it was able to handle the 3/0, and still have plenty of holding power and room to go.

Yeah that is good.  I am looking for a vise for 3/0 to 8/0 or more.

hhmmm....might be able to fit a 8/0 in this vise.  i dont recall what it was actually listed as being able to hold.  i know i have plenty of room left with a 3/0
