Thursday Morning Surf Report...

Left the house in the dark and shot to Reel Life in PP. They didn't have any clams so I picked up a small pck of frozens.. HOLY $$$$. WTF is that about.. That bait is costly!!! Anyways, I hit the beach in Lava this morning just before sunrise...set up and casted out.. sat and sat and sat and sat. I reeled in a couple of times to take the sea robins off and to rebait but I did more sitting around then anything. So after a few hours, 9 am'ish I called it a morning...
2 pm'ish i shot back on the beach, clamless, and threw a variaty pack of lures, plastics, rubbers, wooders, metal-ers floaters, sinkers, brights, darks, waterproofs and nonwaterproofs out there. Know what I got... hahaha..  5hrug

I am wondering if I should stick to the boating...  rofla hhppy hhppy rgmn rgmn rgmn rgmn rgmn rgmn

Good try Capt Ant. Surf is much much harder than in the boat.  TT^

All joking aside, fishing by boat is not easier...it just gives you more options and more technology to find the fish.  It is also more work, IMO...and obviously more expensive!  It takes experience too...you put someone who has never boated before in a boat and they would get the skunk as well.  I am sure you know, anything you do requires practice, patience and persistence...and in the end the payout is good.  Each of the different types of fishing brings a different type of enjoyment with it, as well as the enjoyment they all share of catching fish.  Somedays, no matter how you are fishing, you get lucky and others aren't so lucky!

Now, I will get off my soapbox.  I just had to put my $0.02 in!

Good Luck!

You pretty much hit the nail on the head.. Very well put! As much joking and "bitchin" about the amount of fish I don't catch, I really do enjoy myself out there... Even if I don't catch anything, allthough it would be nice, just getting away from the daily ins and out, is well worth time on the sand...
Besides, when you run a charter boat and summers days are blended into each other, getting out on the sand and fishing is a whole different world.
Remember, I don't have to catch fish here. For me there is no pressure and I can actually ENJOY the sport...

hahaha I will get off my high horse now.. my 3 cents...

Good try Capt. Ant.  I was wondering if you were able to get out.  I was told the other day that the bite right now was not an early (pre-dawn) bite.  My first thought was yeah right.  Well I am starting to think they were right.  I was over at Ortley early but not pre dawn like I usually am.  I started fishing around 8 to 8:30 and for the first 1/2 hour nothing then about 9:30 to 10:00 is when the bite started.  First the striper then the lowly Sea Robin than a fluke followed by another Sea Robin.  By this time I ran our of clams So I went to my local hang out and BS for a while.

While there I saw two other bass brought in and weighed it was as though they were cookie cutter fish.  They were all around 18# and fat.

The shops down here were true to their word and both upped their order of clams and the shortage was no more.

It finally felt good to actually be catching something on a regular basis once more...

They are here guys and right now the clams are still the key.  If we do not have another storms blow through the clams will slow down and we should get back to the plugs and lures once again.

Remember to Match the Hatch.  If the clams beds take a beating the bait of choice would be the clam other wise artificials will be the game in town.

Happy Catching

Paul
