Pumkins, scarecrows and and other festive Fall decorations adorne most of the neighborhood along with cooler mornings and the back bay busting with peanut bunker and mullet, This could only mean one thing ,The best fishing of the year is upon us !!
 Another solid week of early Fall fishing was had amongst anglers aboard the Reel Fantasea . I was even able to  get out on a solo wreck trip to experience some of the best "drop and reel " type seabassin'  ending the trip back with some nice stripers along the sodbanks on BKD's  !!
John Farhy with son Sean were out for a solid striper trip landing 12 bass from 26-29" and keeping their limit , all on live spot ! John [ Dad ]  was " The Striper Man " landing 10 of the stripers !!! The Joe Marisana  Party was out to experience a solid bite on  blues along with a total of 4 stripers , with one making the box . Strange as it may seem we could not buy a bite o n the spot , all the action was on the BKD's. Fran Pratt along with daughter Kate and son Matt were out for a solid mix of 5 stripers [ 2 hit the ice ], blues, blackfish, bergals, huge porgies,and seabass, again Fran [ Dad ] was the striper king with him landing most of the bass- It was also his career day for stripers landing his most and biggest ever!! I have only 3 dates available for open or private charters for the rest of the year. The dates are October 19,23,26. Call  to reserve open or private charters-

Great report Capt. Steve!  Way to put your clients on the fish!

I've noticed from your reports that you use those BKDs a lot.  Although I've used Sluggos in freshwater, I've been meaning to try that type of bait in the salt.

Can you maybe explain more about them?  How do you rig them?  And what sizes and colors you use?

The Bkd's are used in a slight twiching/jigging action as low as you can get in the water column.
More rod work than retreive. I like all of the colors but if I had to pick a few-
1- white/pearl
2-chartruse
3-pink
4-alwive
not necessarily in that order, Hope this helps.

Thanks.  As I said, I've had success with this "type" of bait in freshwater.  The technique you describe sounds similar to the way I've worked them for largemouth.  Usually the largemouth would hit as the bait was falling after you twitched it a couple of times.

Just a few more questions, if you don't mind.

1.  What size BKDs do you normally fish (assuming there is more than one)? 
2.  How are you rigging them? Texposed with a worm style hook?  On a jighead?  Rigged like a plastic eel?
3.  Do you ever weight them, either in front of the bait or using insert weights in the belly?
4.  I was kind of expecting to see black listed as one of your favorite colors.  Is black not a big producer for these baits?

Thanks Rod.  I thought these baits were closer to a Sluggo/Hogy type lure.  But, now that I look at them closer, they seem closer to a Bass Assassin/Zoom Fluke/Fin S Fish which I have used many times for stripers, weakfish etc.  Which one would you say they are closer to, Steve?  Are they heavy enough to be cast weightless?
