Commercial Gillnetter off of Mansquan Inlet Sat 11/29/08
« on: November 30, 2008, 09:49:28 AM »
I just spoke to a friend who I know fishes the Manasquan Inlet regularly after BNB's post about Shad, etc...  Got my interest up, so I figured I would call him and see what was up and if he had been down there recently.

...Anyway, he tells me he was there yesterday in the later afternoon and it wasn't even worth fishing because a certain Commercial Gillnetter was out with nets basically blocking fish from entering or exiting the Inlet effectively.  He had nets then extending north almost up along the beach into Belmar!  Talk about shutting down fishing for anyone in that area...not to mention that the bycatch of bass, which we know are in those areas, must have been unbelievable!

Why is this allowed to happen??  I am not against commercial fishermen or against them making a living, but when you deplete what you reap, eventually you will be poor!  I am just sick of being punished as a recreational fishermen and then here this type of information.  I am glad I didn't witness it.  I might have had to get Whale Warish on them!
