Had Bluefish Steve, Steve Berlamino, Steve Cooper, and Ryan Helmstetter aboard today for an open bass/bluefish trip.
Ran south. Ocean was 2-3' w/ some 4-6' swells thrown in, nothing what the forecast called for - not even close! Ran into birds working not even a half mile from the inlet, did squat.
Ran offshore, deeper water, 60-70', and it was game on. Steady pick of bass and bluefish throughout the day until around 1PM, working on sandeels. AVA's, krocodiles, deadly dick's, crippled herring's, hopkins shorty's, bananas, and pencil poppers all put fish in the boat.
Again, it was a steady pick, a fish here and there, not lights out, but good action. We only had 2 fish on at the same time probably three or four times. Whatever the case, still a good day.
Boated a total of ~30 bass to 30" (most were 26-29"), and ~30 bluefish to 14#, most were 7-10#...
Limited out on bass to 30", and kept a couple of bluefish for the grill. Lots of meat for the boys, overall a very good day with some great late October weather
