Shrewsbury rocks 11/11
« on: November 11, 2008, 05:52:38 PM »
met friend Ken at  his house this morning at 6,picked up his friend Mike and headed to Freds to get clams,he wasn't open, went to Sayreville bait and he didn't open until 7,went and gassed up and came back and got a full bushel of clams, launched at Sayreville and headed out on his boat "The Breeze"heading for the rocks for a day of bottom fishing.hit the open bay and heading into a good chop,it got even worse near the hook, after rounding the hook,it settled down a little, headed down found his mark and anchored.we had action all day on Blackfish and porgies also pulled in a couple winter flounder, the biggest being 18 inches and the smaller one 15 inches, which had to be released.Mike caught the biggest Blackfish at 21 1/2 inches weighing 6 1/2 lbs.kept 3 of the bigger ones for our one man limit, but constant action with catch and release.kept a box full of porgies for Mike that he wanted for some relatives.also caught a unlimited number of spiny dogfish, can't see why these are an endangered species!also a few small seabass were caught and one bergal.bounced around quite a bit out there,we were swinging quite a bit on anchor.ran out of clams at around 1:30,so we headed in,able to move pretty good in the ocean but once in the bay the wind was hitting us right in the face and a big chop that slowed us down.a slow ride in until we hit the river.the morning really flew by with all the action.as I'm typing this, still feel like I'm on the boat.going out tomorrow with fishing buddy John, probably just stay in the back and try for some stripers by trolling and drifting eels,if its not to bad will head out.at least on Ken's boat he has the cover and me with the open boat it can be brutal, don't know how much longer I'm going to stick with it.     Kez
