Unbelievable.

I don't know why they can't put personel on these ships to prevent this sort of thing.

I can understand how this could happen close to land, where they frequently go, but as far out to sea as they were... nosmly

GREAT!  There go the gas prices again :P.  I don't know how this can happen either.  You would think that these companies would staff security on their boats...problem with that is, there are so many laws against it.  The US has some of the strictest laws prohibiting firearms on board ships coming into Ports.  There has to be some way to change laws to allow security on these ships so that they aren't always getting pirated.

I know if I was a Captain, I would take the risk and probably heavily arm myself if I was going through these unstable countries!

As far as firearms onboard ships. You can always find a way to have them transferred to a small boat waiting off shore of your port before you enter the port. Perhaps the same company that is onboard the ship for security purposes can do an offshore gig too.

Hmmmmmmmmm, anybody want to start a ship security business?   ;D

Ship Security sounds good, but NJ wants to ban perfectly good .50 cal rifles. I guess we would have to be based out of Pa.  >:D  <'((((><
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><

You should be able to be based anywhere as long as you stay out beyond the 3 mile limit with the weapons.

But isn't that what our Coast Guard is for?

Oh I forgot the chosen one has that on his agenda to create a citizen army???

I thought the National Guard was ours.  I wonder if they will be wearing brown shirts?
