Reel Class "Icebox" Bass & Blues 11/22
« on: November 22, 2008, 08:46:38 PM »
Had Mike Weitzman, Bob Cameron, John Schiavone and Art Berkman aboard today for a bass trip.

Ran South, worked the stretch primarily from Bay Head to IBSP, making many drops in between on the way down as birdplay was somewhat heavy first thing this morning from the surfline out to roughly a mile off. Picked a few fish everywhere, but it was nothing to write home about.

Got into a little better action between the N end of IBSP and the upper end of Seaside Park, picking fish in deeper water, where we finally landed our first keeper, amidst more shorts and some gator bluefish. After the deep water action shut off like a switch, we ran in on the beach, and played around with more shorts under birds before working our way back north.

Got into some life off Ortley, Lavalette, Ocean Beach and Normandy on small patches of birds but some impressive readings. 50-50 mix of bass and bluefish, more keeper bass coming up at this point though. This bite lasted till it was time to go home.

We wound up with roughly 35 bass, maybe a few more and a few less, with 4 nice fish in the 30-33" range going in the box, + a couple of cookie cutters, the rest were 22-26". Also boated around a dozen bluefish in the 10-16# range. Bob was on fire, boating roughly 20 fish himself, and catching his limit of bass.

The wind was simply brutal, blowing a steady 20-25 all day with gusts to 35 or so, and seas getting tight and a bit steep once you got roughly a mile off. I don't think the air temp climbed much above 30* at all today, and the wind chill must've been in the low teens. Nevertheless, these guys fished their tails off! Good day, it was rewarding to come home w/ some meat in the box today  TT^

Nice work Capt. Sounds like you worked hard for the keeper bass with a lot of action all day.  t^

I am still defrosting from Sat's trip on Reel Class !

I go back alot of yrs with Capt Allen Gonzalez.

Sat was the 1st time I sailed with Capt Allen & I am really happy I did.

From the minute Capt Allen got to the boat he never stopped working.

There were times the guy didn't even have a pair of gloves on.

We were all cold & it's a good thing Capt Allen had fire wood on board   ;)

Bottom line we caught Fish & I drank 2
beers  ;D

Mike,Bob,John it was a pleasure fishing with all of you  grtn

Capt Allen thx again my friend   t^
