Anchor light

 Stern or anchor light. Is there another option besides the ones on a pole?

The light has to be mounted so it is visable 360 degrees. They do have fold down mounting anchor lights and anchor lights that can be removed from the base when not in use.

You can have a masthead light in combination with  a stern light. Both are white lights. The masthead light is placed over the fore and aft centerline of the vessel and shows an unbroken white light over an arc of 225 degrees. The stern light is seen from behind so it shouw an arc of 135 degrees.

If you add up the arcs of both lights you will see that it covers 360 degrees, the same as one white 'all around' light.

The one white 'all around' light can be used instead of the masthead and stern lights on vessels under 12 meters (39.4 feet).

Figure 2 shows an all around white light.

 So if I mount a light say on the center consule high enough and with 360 degrees arc I should be ok? Trying to get away from the pole type so I dont have to take it out, put it in etc.

Yep, that would work. 

As CaptBob said, you can get a pole that folds down so you have more clearance if you need it for bridges.
