Trailer Jack Question

Unfortunately the Dutton-Lainson trailer tongue jack that came on my new 5 Starr trailer is giving me problems. Its only 18 months old and its not retracting fully. I have not been trailering much either this past year.  Yesterday I received a new top of the line Fulton F2 trailer jack rated at 1600 lbs. This jack comes with 2 different size U-bolts for mounting to the trailer which are both too small for my 3" by 5" tongue. I have to buy a Fulton mounting plate and have it welded "not bolted" on the trailer. Now I have to buy the mounting plate and make some calls and see who can weld this plate on for me.

   Has anyone had any experience with this type of situation or this Fulton F2 Jack?? It may be easier to return it and buy a different model that bolts on..

Personally I would return it and get a bolt on.  Is the trailer galvanized?  If so that would need ground off in the area of the weld which now leads to a potential rust spot both inside and outside of the frame.  I am not welder but I think I would look for a bolt on model.

Eddie I am including a link to Fulton's online Catalog. They do make a bolt on model to fit your trailer. No need to go through all that trouble of welding on adapter plates.

I got mine from Cabelas, I bought the largest one them make, and only 4 bolts and it was on. Very easy.

Im going to check out a few different models. My neighbor said he can weld on the Fulton F2 in a few minutes if I decide to keep it.

I have been using trailers and jacks on a lot of my equipment, always found the bolt on 3x5 u clamps to be the most standard and reliable. Easy and safe.

I dont understand why this jack does not come with a bolt on 3x5 U clamp and is only available with a weld on bracket. I imagine it will turn many customers away who do not want to go through the extra expense of hiring a welder. Perhaps it is do to the 1600lb weight rating.

See if you can take the top off of your jack. If its put together it has to come apart. I have fixed quite a few jacks and most of them just needed some serious lubrication. When I buy a new jack, I grease the heck out of everything before it gets installed. Return the Fulton and get a bolt-on. I never had to weld a tongue jack on, on any of my trailers.
