off shore sea bass 1/17
« on: January 18, 2009, 02:39:10 PM »
fished the Atlantic Star yesterday with friend Ken.This was a last minute trip we booked late thursday evening,we got the last two remaining spots.as I mentioned in an earlier post, our Doris Mae trip for friday was canceled.we left his house in Sayerville early at a little after three friday afternoon, wanted to beat rush hour traffic on the parkway and also get there early and get our spot on the boat.after we got down there around 5:30 and eating and checking the area and checking the boat and no one there, eventually found out boat boards at 1 by order of reservation.it was brutal cold at boarding time.all worked out well,we got our poles in a good spot and a bench to crash on.it was around 2:30 am when we left dock.got to the first wreck and anchored and dropping lines the first time at around 8.first fish on for most were spiny dogfish and then the seabass.sea conditions were great and the cold was bearable.the captain kept us on the fish all day as he moved to each wreck and a excellent crew of mates, very courteous and helpful and attending to all your needs.it was none stop action all day, caught eels, dog fish and at one time also into a school of bluefish and of course plenty of big sea bass.we ended up for the two of us 25 nice sized seabass,if we kept all legal size bass maybe another 10 to 12 more but they were tossed back only keeping the big ones.fished to a little after 4 and heading in around 4:20 and back at the dock at 8:30 and home by 11:30.had taken two pictures one of Ken holding two big seabass and one of myself holding two big seabass.was using my wifes good camera which I'm not that familar with yet so I let her download pictures to the computer, well she said she wanted to delete her pictures that she had already down loaded first, well she did and also deleted my two pics to. nosmly.had a great time, arms are sore today, couch and football all day today.      Kez

Nice report kez....too bad about the pics.

You'll have to tell the wife you need to go again to replace the lost pictures.

they fished wrecks, one guy next to me had a jig with teasers above it which he tried on the last wreck we stopped on,nothing took the jig,but I did see a couple caught on the teasers and then he swiched back to bait fishing.     Kez
