I sent emails to the NJ Fish and Wildlife and the Marine Fisheries to request the opening of the season to be changed from Monday, 3/23, to the 21st or 22nd. This would give the weekend anglers a chance to participate on opening day and basically extend their season. Here are their replies:
NJ Fish and Wildlife: I will forward your message to our Marine Fisheries staff for review. As you are probably aware, our seasons are determined at least in part by the federal government.
ASMFC: I have forwarded your message to the New Jersey Commissioners -- David Chanda, Tom Fote and Assemblyman Fisher -- for their consideration of your request. The Commission does not set winter flounder seasons, the states do.
Looks like they are both passing the buck!
I have also run this by the JCAA.
