3/21 IBSP
« on: March 21, 2009, 07:38:40 PM »
Made a short trip out to the park this afternoon.  Did a little scouting and tried out the new 10ft Tica.
Tide was incoming and wind about 10mph out of the East.  Water was rough and a little dirty.  Had 6oz of lead and it wasn't holding.
Very few people out and only saw 1 other rod in 6 miles of sand.
No action, but I was just trying to get out and try new gear.

Good going Chris.  What were you using?   It seems like the B&T's are going to start to handle live bait again.  Good sign, especially if you can get clams as the boats are starting to venture out  again.

The new gear was nice.  Can't wait to get a fighter on the other end.

Threw some Gulp bloodworms I had.  I wanted to get some fresh clams, but I'm gonna be gone all week and wouldn't get to use them all, so I didn't feel like dealing with it.

Got a nasty wind knot about 10 yards from the end of the line on the last cast (it was the last cast thanks to the knot).  It was too cold and windy to fix it out there, so I pulled the reel off and gently packed it up to deal with at home.

Wind knots are a pain when you first fill up the spool.  A lot of places put to much line on for what the spool likes.  At one point the line level will reach the optimum amount and the wind knots will pretty much stop.

it is good that you are trying it out now thgis way you will be all set for the season.

Just cut that booger off and retie, it might happen once again so be ready for it.

The wind will be kicking a bit early morning the wind will be out of the west turning to SW and then to the SE.  Typical for this time of year.

At least you got a try.... trying for me is casting something in the yard and reeling the kids in!  Not a joke, my kids are so facsinated by my fishing poles it's unreal!
