Raritan Bay Stripers 4/17
« on: April 17, 2009, 05:48:00 PM »
met friends Ken and Hon(Nichole) at Sayreville Ramp a little after 6 this morning, they were going out with me on my boat, they had picked up well over a bushel of fresh clams the night before at Julians.we headed out straight for the Keyport Flats,a little nippy ride in the open boat that early.we got out and anchored and started chumming the clams, but not marking and no action, after awhile Ken suggested we move over near the Reach in the vicinity of the 19 can,so we pulled up and made the move and anchored in about 23 feet of water, started cracking clams, wasn't long before we had action, started thru the slack tide and never let up,even with the swing to the incoming the action continued, even with the moving tide it didn't seem like that much of a current,we were holding fish in our clam slick almost directly under the boat.most caught were schoolies in the 25 to 27 inch range,Ken caught 2 nice ones, one at 30 inches and one at 32 inches,Hon and myself did manage ones in the 28 inch range, between the 3 of us we landed around 30 fish, all fish were released except the 32 incher which had swallowed it and was gut hooked,Striper74 could of had it for dinner but didn't feel like cleaning it and pop wasn't cleaning it,ended up giving it to a neighbors brother.stayed at it till we ran out of clams, had action all day but had to keep cracking clams and chumming to get them.headed in around 1.neat sight on the way up the river, seals at the drydock.took some pictures, hope the one I posted comes out clear.great day on the water, there always great but a lot greater when the fishings good.the boat was a total mess with blood and clam snots all over the place but love to see a fishing boat look like that ;D   Kez
