Deep water fishin outside 4/25
« on: April 25, 2009, 05:44:21 PM »
Had T-bone and his son Nick out in the Pea Soup early this AM.  Thank you Raymarine for some fine electronics.  The fog lifted around 7:30.  We were in the hunt for some bottom dwellers, specifically, tog.  Found a few skates and dogfish in 50 ft that produced very nicely last fall.  I guess the temps have not warmed up enough for the Blackfish to show up there yet.  We pulled anchor and moved to 100-115 outside of the Mud Bouy and had loads of fun pulling up good fighting Congers(we think) and a couple of Cod.  It was drop and reel until we got out of dodge due to the Dogfish invasion.

T-bone has some pics.  Hopefully, he'll read and post on this thread.  If someone can positively ID that would be great.

T-bone, the fillets look real clean and plenty white. Not sure how I'm going to prepare just yet but if anyone has suggestions that would be appreciated.

T-bone,

Thanks for the pics.  There are a couple posts on this site that pretty much confirms Conger ell or Pout fish.  Fillets look real tasty.

Where's your post from yesterdays Stripes?

Those are Ocean Pout.
Some mistakenly call them Concer Eels.  True congers would be the Silver eels.

Thanks for the clarification.  For lunch today, I fried up the Cod and Pout like a typical fluke Panko style with cocktail sauce.  Both were excellent!  Suprised that the nasty looking Pout tasted so good.
