Looking for a new ride?
« on: May 31, 2007, 10:11:50 PM »
Hi Guys,

I am a bit confused.

I have had many boats in my day and I am a bit puzzled.

I would like a new boat (or newer used boat) to go with my 21 ft. center console and I cannot find anything that works.

I sold a 34' Luhrs at the end of last season; had a 28' Parker Pilot house for a while. I have access to a nice 40'+ Hatteras so that is cool.

I would like diesel but is a single diesel on a 25 ft. boat the answer ...

I regularly would use the boat in the Mudhole and with good planning and weather would like to hit some of the closer canyons.

I was thinking about World Cats but not anymore ...

Maybe another Parker/Steiger - I do miss being out of the elements.

I don't really want a project boat ... I can think of many projects to do on a minty boat.

Anyone see anything cool or have a friend/relative selling anything?

Confused,

Capt. Ed

Hi Hareball,

I have been thinking the same thing ... BUT, I wish they had larger fuel tanks. I have never seen under the deck to see what is there but, can't we squeeze a few more gallons down there.

I have used fuel bladders and such in the past ... getting too lazy.

Best wishes,

Capt. Ed

Capt Ed

Go up on the Hudson River Fishermans Assoc web site. One of the members has a 2002 25' Parker with a Yami for sale, looks real clean. Good Luck in your search ;)

Hi Kahoots,

I have diesel on the brain lately as my cousin tells me how much he saves with his bio-diesel car.

I was looking at an aluminum boat (North River). They are cool and you get some money on scrap when its time to put it to rest. That beats renting a dumpster and then trying to get rid of tanks.

Anyone been on a smaller (25 - 30 ft.) aluminum hull?

Thanks,

Capt. Ed

my friend and I have the same issue with fuel. we can carry 200 gallons and thats just not enough for safe runs to the canyon. he looked into adding another tank but was advised against it. needless to say the parker will be up for sale next season as we slip into the 30' class with a diesel or 2.

Hi Hareball,

Nice!

I was looking at a 34' or so Scarab. I liked that ... the forward cabin (like the old Vectors) is remarkably nice. I thought it would be bumpy up there but it was ok.

Everything always leads back to some kind of center console ... spolied by its deck space and fishability I guess.

Thanks,

Ed

I fish with Capt Bud on his "Splinter" which is a 28' True World.  This vessel is a good mix of a center console and a cutty cabin.  It has plenty of room to walk around the entire boat, a good size cockpit and room to get out of the weather.  He has twin outboards but it come standard with twin diesels.  Here is a link http://www.trueworldmarine.com/

Have you looked at the Contenders? Heck of a boat, although they are outboard only as far as I know. They have a 31' fisharound which offers you protection from the elements and can get you where you want to go in a hurry. I think Capt Fred fom Andreas Toy has one.
PS Dont buy anything up here you can save thousands going south, good luck in your search

Hi Guys,

Great points ... I do love True World and Shamrock boats. Time to arrange for some test rides.

Thanks for all the good input (keep it coming),

Capt Ed,
You know there's nothing like a Bertrum.   t^
I would have one if I could get it at the right price.  But I think what I want is out of reach.  :'(

Hi,

Bertrams are way too expensive these days.

The "Promises Kept" is for sale right at Klein's. Capt. Vern's brother is my neighbor. They put some sick money into fixing that boat up. It is a beauty!

Best wishes,

Capt. Ed
