LBI 5/12, night of the stripers...
« on: May 13, 2009, 08:35:38 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Called up Jim tonight since I didnt have class and couldnt pass up some beautiful weather to give LBI another shot. Id say we got to the island around 730ish, looked out front at a few spots to see some of the cleanest calmest water Ive seen in a looooong time on LBI, but we weren't feelin the beach after plugging one of our spots for 20 minutes. Packed up and headed out to the inlet.

Around the 2nd hour of the incoming we were hearing splashes in a rip nearby, thinking it was some herring we ran back to the jeep for our light tackle. Well we thought wrong... Jim's light rod doubled over and after a good 10 minute fight and 2 or 3 runoffs I went to get ahold of his fish that was definitely NOT a herring.

1/4 oz jighead with a curly tail worm was the key. Fishing under lights, we watched the bass going absolutely bonkers for a good hour. I didnt have any fish but Jim came unbuttoned from a schoolie near the rocks and lost another real nice fish. I had a few bumps but no takers, we were fishing the same stuff.

All in all one of the best nights yet of the season. Watching these bass go nuts pushing spearing to the rocks was amazing but for me to not hook into a fish had me furstrated...  rgmn

Ah well. I know where they'll be at the right time under the right weather conditions now  slt

Sure wish I was the one with the fish  :'(

Good effort, maybe needed to match the hatch a little better.
A good day of fishing is better than a bad day of fishing. A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. That means work sucks!

Nice going guys.  I am jealous when I read how you guys get out at night all the time.  Up here in the Toms River area it is all about the night bite as well.  Just to add to Bucktails list don't forget lures like the 5" Mombo Minnow fished slow at night the black is usually a killer lure.  And for a deeper riding lures like the Bomber Long A in dark colors would work as well.

Happy Catching

Yeah I know.  I am looking to get out this weekend most likely Sunday at IBSP but it won't be early as there is some sort of race on the beach and it will be over at close to 10:00 AM.  5hrug

I have company over for the weekend and most are not into fishing.  So I guess I loose as they are my wife's relatives and I got to make nice nice.  At least I get a good Japanese meal out of it.  Boy do I love Sushi.
