Raritan Bay 5/15
« on: May 15, 2009, 10:14:53 PM »
got a late start this morning, attended an awards ceremony for our 7 year old granddaughter who was student of the month for her first grade class, and afterwards went for breakfast with son Brian(striper74)and daughter inlaw and our 2 year old grandson.afterwards picked Brian up a little after 11,stopped and gassed up the boat, still had around a bushel of fresh clams from my trip wednesday.out of Sayreville around 12:30.moved around slowly going out, trying to get some marks.finally stopped a little bit east and in from the 11A can, here no more than 10 minutes an Brian has one on,landed and just shy of the 28 inch mark, stayed here thru the slack tide and the change and that was it,pulled up and moved over by great Kills,I had one run off and Brian had all the action,a double header spider crab catch, one giant sea robin, when it seemed like crabs were the prevalent species got out of town.moved back bay,was going to try round shoal but seen a small group of boats set up on the flats, moved over picked our spot and set up and started chumming heavy, but nothing for a while.around 5 pm started getting some action,Brian gets a nice fat 32 incher on his light pole, that goes in the cooler,he wanted to try that cajun striper burger recipe that was posted.I caught the fat 26 to 27 inch shorts and Brian caught a few, honestly,I was chumming the clams so heavy,I think I had a slick all the way to Montauk.in all toll,we caught around 8,would have stayed longer but no more clams.I didn't catch a keeper, but glad to catch stripers,my last few trips haven't been so good on the striped part.great day on the water and great day with my son. t^    Kez

That is great.  I just talked with my daughter and she will be going fishing with us in the morning that right there made my day.

Got to love it when the kids love to still go out with the ol' man, brings a tear to the eye... :'(

Happy Catching

Paul

It was nice to get out yesterday with Kezsr.  Enjoyed catching stripers for a change and no blues.  I've been dying to try that cajun striper recipe, and finally got me some meat!  The only problem is I woke up with a sore throat last night and now I probably couldn't even taste it!  Hopefully the throat thing passes and I can try the recipe while the fish is fresh, otherwise I may give it away.  I don't like to freeze fish if possible.

Anyway, all in all a great day.  I was very proud of my daughter's student of the month award in the a.m., and got to do some fishing in the p.m.!  What could be better? TT^
