Met up with Capt. Ken at 4:30 this morning at the Seawaren ramp. Capt Ken is coming off the ASA Bahrs tourney where he took second place. My brother Matt, old boyhood friend Larry and nephew Brendan were the crew today.
Started at the other side of the Outerbridge looking for bunker, at first it was just us and another boat...bunkies were hard to find....WTF in about 20 minutes there was a fleet of bunker hunters including a few of the sponsors on this site zigging and zagging trying for bait.....we had our 25 in the live well and decided to make a bee line while the getting was good.
That was the right decision as we set out around the hook to try oceanside.
Stopped at some gannets diving and had Brendan drop a livie in to see what was under them.....bluefish....decided not to waste any of the precious bunker on the demons, so we headed further south where we found acres of bunker breaking surface without any marauding blues around.
Set up and drifted our livies and hooked up with and boated 6 nice bass, several in the 25 lb class.....I lost a really nice one because I broke my cardinal rule about checking the knots carefully.......really not much traffic around us, nor many surf fisherman working the bunkers close to the beach....left when we ran out of bait and was back in the dock by 11:30
Capt Ken ran over 60 miles today to put us on the stripers....he knows Striped Bass!....I have some pics but am having a problem with my cable....will post if I can solve the problem.
