Fishguts mixed bag 6/3
« on: June 03, 2009, 06:22:39 PM »
Had Jim P out today for a mixed bag trip(our specialty). The plan was to hit the inshore wrecks for seabass then fluke and blue fish in the bay. Having never seabass fish before Jim got the hang of it pretty quick with double headers coming up with some nice quality fish. After a few hours of steady catching(5 to 1 keeper ratio) and close to 30 keepers in the box it was time to look for some fluke. Jim managed 6 shorts and lost 2 nice fish close to the boat in about an hours time. I was happy to see the bite pick up a little but the slim grass is still keeping me from a lot of the best early season spots. Next it was off to look for blues. We managed to located a very nice showing of blues in  very clear 3 feet of water close to Seaside. I also saw some bird play close to the the bridge this morning.Grass was a big problem but the fish were on the feed and crashing rainfish. Lost a few plugs from  other fish biting  line when we would hook up.The slim grass is the worst I have ever seem south of the Governors mansion. Fish don't seem to mind but it has to be choking off a lot of the bottom dwellers. Its like fishing a farm pond in the middle of summer. nosmly We boxed a few for the grill and released a few more before calling it a day and leaving the fish jumping. Check out the pic of the 2 blues on the same plug.

Great report and nice catch!

The algae is really taking over the eel grass all over the bay.  It certainly does look like a bad freshwater pond that you would skip fishing in...pretty much what was predicted last year and supposedly only to get worse nosmly.

Mixed bag rules ;D The mixed bag trips really allowes us to give the charter a very good chance at putting a solid catch together. Since carrying a minimum of 3 rods per angler (4 if we may be plugging) the angler will always have the right tackle for what we are  targeting. Conditions and a good bite are always happening somewhere. The trick is being flexable enough to find it.
