Pilot/Schultz Fluke Combo 6/3
« on: June 03, 2009, 10:45:57 PM »
At 9:30 this morning, I get a call from Schultzie and we're shooting the breeze.  We're both comparing notes on the weather sitting over Round Valley.  The debate continues if this is the storm that supposed to sit over us for a couple of days.  He says, "so you want get out?" Without hesitation.... pick me up and I nearly hung up on him because I'm jonesing again to get out.  10 minutes later, he's in the driveway and we are stowing gear and on our way to the V20 in Keyport.  We had the essentials.... but needed to pick up a pint of killies.

Boats in, we gas up and were ready to make way.  A call to Donnie, gives us the low down on his exploits. We nearly flip a coin because Schultz had a decent day with his son Bill jr. yesterday in an area south and several miles from where Don suggested.

As it turned out, we made the right move on the fresh info.  On our first drift, at just about the top of tide with the wind giving us a minor drift, I connect with three shorts in 26 ft.  Bill's not happy.  He wants to head to yesterday's grounds (two 22 inchers).  I'm biting my tongue and politely suggest we don't move from fish to find fish and his logical thinking brings him back around.

Well... the wait was not long.  We drifted the same tracks and incoming started to cooperate.  Yup that was the ticket.  For the next 2-2.5 hrs we had fish on every pass.  Willie had a slow start but came on strong and was "hot hand luke".  He boxed three nice fish ranging 20-22".  I only put one in the box but it was on a double header (first for the season).  A 19.5 pounded a spro dressed with a huge squid strip while a just shy fish smacked the teaser killie.

The skies finally did catch up with us from the valley.  She started to break loose as we beelined back to Keyport.  Tied up, dried up and got on our way back home.  Nice day.  24 fish.  Tons just short and someone got a postage stamp that I couldn't get the camera out fast enough ;) Maybe next time  rofla

so you are catching nice fat flatties, does the camera come out? No.
But you pull in a postage stamp and what is all the comotion you hear behind you on your V20, Pilothouse diving for the camera laughing so hard he almost falls overboard.

fishing buddies, it's a wonderful thing slt
