Sat June 6th Cape May Drum report !
« on: June 09, 2009, 07:20:30 AM »
Left my house at 12:00 am.

There is only 1 thing to do if you haven't had any sleep  ;)

1st stop Dunkin Donuts.

Boss may I help you   rofla

Can I have a double Expresso please.

Downed the Double expresso and now my goal was to make last call at the Blue Rock cafe   ;D

I arrived at Blue Rock cafe at 1:00 am and I did not have to meet Tony until 2 am.

The Blue Rock was jumping with freshwater seals   t^

I enjoyed the views and I had 1 Blue moon.

At 1:30 am I left the Blue Rock and met Tony at 2 am in Union Beach.

Put my gear in Tony's mini van and the 1st stop was wawa.

We fueled up with more caffeine and Tony headed south on the GSP.

2 hrs later we arrived in Cape May.

1st stop Wawa for more caffeine.

We left the wawa and went over to snug Harbor marina. When we arrived Capt Skip was already there getting things ready for our trip.

We BS'D for abit and my cell phone rings and it's Mike (aka MBOY).

Mike says Art where are you at.

I said Snug Harbor marina.

Mike said we will be there in a few minutes.

Mike,Marty,Bates arrived at Snug harbor marina.

We put all our gear on the Stalker and Capt Skip took the dock lines off.

The weather was still nasty when we cleared the inlet.

We were about 3 miles from the 1st spot and all of sudden an alarm goes off  nosmly

Tony turns to Capt Skip & says it must be an oil thing.Capt Skip shuts the engine off and he finds out that there is no oil.The oil leaked all over the bilge pump.Capt Skip is besides himself.

Capt Skip called Capt Scott from Duct work Charters and Capt Scott jumped on his 31 ft Cape Horn and headed towards us.Capt Skip calls me outside and says Art I am really sorry I feel terrible.I said Skip it's not the 1st time & it won't be the last time not to worry. Now Capt Skip makes several calls to other Captains to see if they can take us out but everyone was booked. We had the option of going with Capt Scott on his 31 ft Cape Horn but 5 guys on a 31 ft CC would have been tight. Now I have to be the one to let my crew know what's going on.

Capt Scott jumped on board the Stalker and Skip jumped on Capt Scott's Cape Horn and Capt Scott temporarily fixed the Stalker so we can get back to the dock.

We returned to snug harbor safe & sound and once again Capt Skip says Art I am very sorry.

We all decided to go for Breakfast and we went as far as inviting Capt Skip & Capt Scott to join us but the only thing on those guys minds were to fix the problem on the Stalker.

After Breakfast we all headed home.

At 11:15 am I went to the Keyport Fishery and ordered 2 platters and took the hr ride home.

Once I got home I hit the pillow and never woke up until 6am on Sunday !

Ouch Art! Sorry I missed this one. ::) ;D

Sounds like it was just not meant to be on that day...but glad to hear it was something small and you all got back ok. I went out with Pete on Jr's boat and was off my game for sure. I have to get right before the JCAA.

Talk to you soon.

That is a tuff trip to make. Fortunately, these type of trips are few and far between.

Catch em up next time.  t^

SH*T happens when you go fishing, but at least everyone got home safely which is the main thing.  t^

For those who don't want to make that long trip from the north, there is an Econolodge off exit 25 in Marmora that I have stayed at many times. You can get in there usually for $40 or $50 dollars which is well worth the money to get a good nights sleep the night before the trip. It is the old type where you back your car or truck right up to your door so your fishing stuff is pretty safe.  There is also a big Wawa between it and the parkway entrance which is very convenient.

No fishing this weekend, going to Englishtown for the drag races and a lot of drinking and ball busting with great friends.  chrz

Tight Lines,
