Off to O'Ahu
« on: June 12, 2009, 01:15:12 AM »
Aloha kâkou!

Well it looks like I just got the final word and it seems like I will be going out to Hawaii July 4th to the 10th to shoot (photograph) a wedding of a family member.  Just about all the expenses will be paid for me and my wife and daughter all I have to do is pay for their airfares and private stuff.

I will be looking for maybe a fishing trip on the 9th if I can swing it time wise.  I have been looking into a number of charters and the 1/2 day trips seem doable.  I would like to try surf fishing but I have been told that due to overfishing there is not much going on.  That is to bad as I will be staying in a beach house right on the East side of the island.  I literally walk out the door and there is the beach.  Now all I have to do is think of a way to get my surf stuff over there.

I will have to see if I can buy a cheap Wal Mart special as a throw away or give away when I am done.

I am so looking forward for this opportunity to do some serious photography out there. Just about all my time has been set up already with photo shoots up till Wednesday when the actual wedding will take place on one of the secluded beaches.

If you can't tell by this post I am excited.  It is a dream assignment come true.  I hope the weather holds as it is hurricane season out there as well.  Being right at the most vulnerable part of the island I would have to seek shelter, but what pictures huh... :P

If anyone has been to O'Ahu lately and can give some suggestions as to the unusual activities on that island I would surly appreciate it.

Mahalo nui loa

Happy Catching

Paul

Hi Paul, I was in Hawaii 2 weeks ago, O'Ahu has a super WalMart between the Capital and waikiki, Look it up on line and do a Mapquest to see how far it is from where you are staying, you can purchase a rod there.  Honolulu was one of the 3 Islands I visited. While there I went to Pearl Harbor TT^, Sea life Park for a dolphin experience which was awesome, And my daughter went to the polynesian cultural center with nanny.we also went on a ride in the surf in waikiki on an outrigger canoe for 12 bucks a person, that was fun.  I did notice a small fleet of charted boats near the cruise ship pier. Give me a call or PM with any Questions. My number is on the list. t^   Eddie

Thanks guys.

I am so syked that we will not be in the hustle and bustle of the city at all only to get there and travel to see some sights.  This beach house looks fantastic and what I like it is in a neighborhood that is truly Hawaiian and not touristy.

Here are a couple of pictures I have found of the view from this beach.

Hey Paul. If you or anybody in your fishing party happens to be in the military/DOD employee or retired military, MCAS kaneohe's MWR department rents boats really, really cheap. Also does offshore charters for $475, about half what you'll pay on the west side..Have a great trip.-Frank  (Livewire)

Thanks Livewire,

I am not sure I will be doing a charter or not but I know all I ave to do is go to Walmart out there and pick up a cheap outfit and go to a local B&T and get the bait or just throw in some lures like Hopkins stuff.

My window for myself is Thursday of that week.  :P

I just might want to spend it relaxing on the beach fishing.

This is true.  Now that it is all set up (and what a pain in the A$$ it was) I am looking forward to going.

I was over at Grumpys to pick up some Grumpy clothes for the trip and was given some good tips as Mike has been out there a number of times and said the area I will be staying has some giant Ulua's (Trevally). Especially off the surf.  That sounds like a plan for me.  Now I am really looking forward to going.

Like I said a quick trip to Walmart and pick up an inexpensive outfit and we are good to go.

Happy Catching

Paul

BTW if anyone is looking to go and fish off the surf tonight it looks like it is going to be very crowded.  At the store it was like take a number.  Is it Fall yet?
